Granny would be proud!

Last week sweet church members brought me a gift. We have teased for a long time about me needing a cast iron skillet in order to consider myself a "real" southern cook. Last week they gave me one. It's older than I am, you can tell it was well used and loved. It was a very thoughtful gift.

Last night, I decided I should make home made corn bread just like my Granny used to make. The men in my family LOVE this cornbread. So I tried. It turned out OK, not as good as Granny's but for my first try, I was pretty excited. My kids loved it. Considering that Kinsey genes run through their DNA it wasn't a  surprised. If you slather butter on warm crunchy bread any Kinsey will love it :)

I will continue to try Granny's recipes in hopes that I can grow in my southern cooking genes. It was nice to make something knowing she would have been proud of me :)
